Interview prep

Using STAR answers in a security interview

Two professionals in conversation at a table

Turn real scenarios into short, confident answers that show what you did, how you did it and what changed.

STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action and Result. It's a simple way to keep interview answers focused and under two minutes.

In security interviews the Action part carries the most weight. Name the tools you used, the evidence you collected and the decision you made, in that order.

Close with a measurable result where you can: an alert closed in minutes rather than hours, an audit finding remediated before the deadline, or a control that now runs automatically.
